Counseling Philosophy and Population

Did you know that the best therapy outcomes are tied with close therapeutic relationships? Research studies have explored this concept over time, determining that the quality of a therapeutic relationship is a better predictor of clinical success rather than theoretical orientation (style of therapy), despite differing diagnoses. (Citation)

I place particular emphasis on fostering that relationship and building a working alliance while helping clients work toward their goals. In essence, we are a team trying to get you closer to where you want to be. I aspire to be your best advocate (second to yourself, of course), and whenever needed, a cheerleader to help you reach your full potential. Most of my caseload is made up of long-term clients who choose to continue treatment for reasons such as: continual insight, healing, growth, and in some cases a way to guarantee regular accountability and introspection for themselves. I strive to have a deep and non-judgmental understanding of what a client’s life is like, how it feels, and where they could be struggling with some blind spots. A client should be able to share something in session and feel like their therapist “gets them” and knows they are on their team.

I have current openings available for motivated prospective adult clients ready to make a change. Prospective clients must be located in Michigan and open to Telehealth in lieu of in-person visits. My approach blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Adlerian psychotherapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR- using the AIP model).
